Why There Are So Many More Women Than Men in TV News
Go into any TV newsroom in America, and chances are, there are more women than men. News directors constantly talk about the lack of good-looking men in the news business. First off, most men who get into the business want to be sportscasters. In fact, a number of anchors used to be in sports, but crossed over because the money is better. Many of the men who decide not to further pursue a career in sportscasting get out of the business all together. Money is also a factor. Contrary to popular belief, TV news doesn't pay all that great. A few do very well, but most make what a teacher would earn, except they don't get three months off during the summer! Men often see themselves as the bread-winners. Their self-esteem can be tied to the amount of money they make. On the other hand, women can use a career in the news as an investment. A hottie can use her looks and visibility on TV to attract a husband with a great paying job who can take care of her. |

I never realized that women would work as TV Newscasters to attract a mate. Now that is news to me.
